The inventor of the automobile is often credited to German inventor and engineer Karl Benz. He patented his first gasoline-powered car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, in 1886. However, several other inventors and engineers also contributed to the development of the modern automobile, including Henry Ford, who popularized the assembly line method of manufacturing cars.
