目前全球有四个主要的全球定位系统，分别是美国的GPS（Global Positioning System）、俄罗斯的GLONASS（Global Navigation Satellite System）、欧洲的伽利略卫星导航系统（Galileo Satellite Navigation System）和中国的北斗卫星导航系统（BeiDou Navigation Satellite System）。此外，印度也在建设自己的卫星导航系统——IRNSS（Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System）。
